The existence of the search profession has not, in and of itself, improved the caliber of candidates provided by the search process. Those organizations that look to the search process as the only means of improving overall organizational performance without taking into account the overall picture of the organization's performance opportunities, may be disappointed. We assist organizations in evaluating and making necessary changes that result in improved human capital and greatly improved organizational performance. As a result, we prefer to spend the majority of our time addressing the challenges of business that may be continually and systematically improved upon, in an effort to reduce the frequency of necessary executive search activities and related expenses.
Through our Leader Search practice and on a confidential and retained basis, we rapidly surface exceptional candidates exclusively for positions of significant leadership responsibility within your organization, generally for positions with base salaries between $95,000 and $480,000, and for positions with very significant organizational and leadership impact. We undertake a very limited number of searches each year, so that each search may be performed both quickly and with excellent results.
Our approach to executive search is different than most search firms because we start from scratch with every search. We do not maintain files of resumes and we do not subscribe to applicant databases. We determine the very specific nature of the available position (skills, behavioral characteristics, and psychometric makeup) by working with you and others within your organization, and we then formulate a search road map and position specifications with your assistance. Nearly every one of our searches is completed with an outstanding candidate placed within eighty days. Our speed and candidate quality are second to none. We know where to go for candidates who will best match your organization's needs and desires.
Some organizations have resorted to web-based executive recruitment and position bulletin boards. Many organizations have found, and it appears to us, that that methodology provides very large numbers of "C" quality candidates. Inevitably, those organizations eventually narrow their web-based search to one final candidate who in most cases is the best of the worst. The time spent reviewing and then meeting with those candidates frequently exceeds what the cost of a high quality and efficiently focused search process would have been.
With our Leader Search process, you spend a comparatively small amount of time with a very small number of outstandingly qualified final candidates and you spend no time wondering how long it will take to fill the available executive position. We do 100% of the screening for you and we meet personally with any candidate who is to be presented to you for your consideration. Nearly all of our searches are completed after two or three candidates are presented and many are completed after only one candidate is presented.
Leadership Strategies is committed to an expeditious search process that respects both the client's and the candidate's priorities and objectives. As a result, before we undertake any Leader Search engagement, we confirm the following with our client:
- That the client organization is intent upon filling the available position within eighty days at a maximum.
- That the client organization is sophisticated enough to make an immediate hiring decision when an exceptionally qualified individual is presented, without regard to any need or desire to review additional candidates.
- That the client organization makes no assumption that the quality of candidates and the quality of the eventually selected individual is directly related to the number of candidates considered.
- That the client organization will not consider age, sex, race, religion, national origin or disability as exclusionary screening factors.
- That the client organization places no geographic restriction upon where highly qualified candidates may be sourced.
- That the client organization is willing and able to provide competitive market-based compensation and perquisites, as well as relocation assistance if necessary, to the selected candidate
Likewise, before we actively consider any candidate for your available position we ensure the following:
- That the candidate has a clearly positive track record in most or all of the areas in the available position specification.
- That the candidate matches the behavioral and psychometric specifications for the available position and the client organization's culture.
- That the candidate is seeking professional development and rewards other than simply money and perquisites from their next employer.
- That the candidate is not currently considering or in pursuit of other positions with other employers.
- That if necessary, the candidate and if applicable his/her family, actively embrace the notion of relocation.
- That the candidate is enthused about the opportunity presented by your organization, and is immediately responsive to our requests for information.
- That the candidate is exceptionally unlikely to consider a counter-offer from his/her current employer.
By establishing these search parameters in advance, we have found that our clients end up with much higher quality candidates and do not run the risk of losing those candidates to other opportunities.
By structuring our search process in this manner, you also receive the benefit of a lower search fee, and much better service and results than nearly all other search firms. Our Leader Search fee is generally between twenty-three to twenty-six percent of the candidate's first year's base compensation and hiring incentive, if any.
